Beginning with indigenous Australian issues and anthropology, her career in development has focused on the needs of the marginalized and excluded. At AusAID she was pivotal in placing women’s economic empowerment firmly on the agency’s policy agenda and for researching women’s entrepreneurship in seven Pacific island countries. She has monitored Corporate Social Responsibility programs to increase women’s participation and benefit for Hewlett Packard in China; lived in Nepal for 5.5 years where she worked for SNV on inclusive business projects and building capacity for gender and social inclusion; completed social policy related consultancies for UNICEF and worked as a consultant for the World Bank. Her PhD examined social inclusion and social protection in the post conflict state of Nepal including labour related social security and the political settlement.
She has designed several private sector related development projects (M4P; DCED standards; care economy; tourism; agriculture; SME) and trained many others on the economic empowerment needs of women. Dr Drucza is currently a gender focused qualitative researcher for CIMMYT the wheat and maize research institute based in Ethiopia where she manages a research for development project on gender in agriculture.
